Archives

Introduction

The "Archives" section of the website provides a survey of record groups of relevance to the history of the Danish West Indies. The presentation is divided into three parts: first, the four most important central government offices in Copenhagen; second, other central government offices dealing with various topics of interest; and third, the West Indian Local Archives created by offices in the Danish West Indies.

The nature and content of each record group is discussed with special reference to West Indian matters, and references are provided concerning specific finding aids and specialised literature.

The "Finding Aids" section of the website contains detailed catalogues of the four most important government offices, of the West Indian accounts, and of the West Indian Local Archives.
